- In all likelyhood it will be - check out the AT site for information, even
- they say it will probably have 2MB Chip Mem. Keep in mind - the 5MB was the
- specification for the prototype...

-
- Yeah - hopefully we'll still be able to read Amiga disks - I've got a lot of
- them. However, the major benefit will be to be able to read high density disks at
- full, not half, speed!

- A question of aesthetics. I can see as this would look quite nice next
- to my monitor, toward the rear of the desk - much like a mini-tower for a PC.

-
- EPP also means we'll be able to print 24-bit color at a decent speed.
- Also, if they do what seems likely, you may still be able to use your old Amiga
- port - hence, you'll have 2 parallel ports; this is a bad thing? The Ditto tape
- backup is about $140 - very inexpensive, some people don't have the money
- to purchase higher performance SCSI.
-
- >Well, why bother with SCSI, when you can have EIDE right? EIDE stinks!

- >and reduces functionality by 10 times. Well done, I'm impressed.
-
- Yeah - I'd like SCSI-II, as well, but keep in mind the max rate of
- SCSI-II is 10MB/sec, E-IDE is 13.5MB/sec. E-IDE can support external units,
- it's just a question of having exterior ports... E-IDE can handle 4 drives if
- I remember correctly. Given that IDE and E-IDE drives are cheaper than
- SCSI/SCSI-II, respectively, you'll be able to get larger drives for less, and thus
- have less need to daisy chain multiple devices. Hell - even Apple switched
- to IDE for their internal harddrives. (not that they are a font of wisdom ;-)

- >CUT IT! Aaaaargh, you'd think they'd learn after the A4000/A1200.
- >
-
- It can do just fine. The A4000/A1200 multitask no worse, and suffer
- no more than previous SCSI equipped Amigas when it comes to multi-tasking.
- You might be angry about the A4000s performance because it had a very poor
- bus design to access memory - poorer than the A3000 - this would affect DMA
- drive performance!

- >between printer/sampler/scanner now would we?
-
- Yeah - All in all, I'd like to see a stereo 8 bit in for audio - a
- good one can be had for in the $30 range these days. That way, when
- they say multi-media we'll be able to jam out some MODs real quick!
- Combined with MIDI that would be potent! Use crappy (i say crappy
- because that soft, annoying music you hear on PC games) MIDI for
- background music, and the 4 channel stereo that should be left over
- for sound effects... Also, if they keep the old ports, and add new ones
- with EPP - you'll be able to use your digitizer on the Amiga port, and
- printer on the EPP port.

-
- The case itself is extensible - you can use spanners to increase
- it's height! Have you seen the insides of this thing? That slot is HUGE!
-
- I too would like to see it before I believe it though - I want some
- simple slot boards out and available with the release of this thing!

-
- No MMU doesn't mean no V-Mem or memory protection. It just makes
- those features harder to implement. A number of Amiga programs use VMem w/o
- an MMU - ImageFX, and Shapeshifter come to mind... Memory protection is both
- a good and bad thing - it makes it much harder to pass data from one process to
- another w/o messages. If memory protection is such a cure all, how come PCs
- and Windows crash so much? It sure as hell doesn't solve that many problems.
